We will be leaving Ometepe and heading to Laguna Apoyo for a few days. Decided not to rent a car. Is it reasonable to expect that we can hire a driver/car from the ferry to Apoyo? Or is that something we should arrange beforehand? We are a family of 6, so will need a minivan or bigger...
I would suggest arranging a van ahead of time. Chances are a driver that you meet at the ferry will not know how to get to the Laguna. Contact any of the tour/transportation companies in Granada and they will meet you at the ferry and take you to Apoyo. I travel from Ometepe to Apoyo at least 6 times per year (maybe more) and have found this is the best and least expensive. Depending on where you are staying in the Laguna and the time of year, you may need a 4-wheel drive once to get to the Laguna.
