Possible move to Nicaragua

We are taking a 7 day vacation to Nicaragua to gather information regarding living conditions in the country. We would possibly like to retire there if find that the cost of living is much less than in the states. Can anyone suggest the best places to investigate around the country and any web site that we could explore to help us make a decision. San Juan Del Sur looks very inviting but a little expensive. Is Granada a good place to start? Any tips would be helpful. Thanks

And the list of well known pages keep going but i recomend to take a bit more of time after your 7 day vacations, come back to the country and rent for a bit and try to get your own opinions and scout yourself houses and places to retire.

Greetings Kathy:

The way I present possible locations within Nicaragua to our guests is by asking questions of what sort of climate you prefer, if you want or need to be near a large city (health reasons for example), etc.

But most start with "do I want to live at the beach, city, or in an elevated (cooler) area." and go from there. In only seven days, unfortunately you won't be able to get around to a lot of different areas, but most start with the so-called "Golden Triangle" which is Granada, Ometepe Island, and San Juan del Sur.

You can check out my web site, I have some posts on how one can go about deciding location, cost of living, etc. But honestly, just have fun on this trip and get to know some people who have been here awhile, then go on from there. In Nicaragua it is all about the network of people you know.

Cheers and I hope this helps!
