I need to get to Zadar for September 19th for a family wedding. My husband can't fly for health reasons and we will have our 2 year old granddaughter with us, so I think a long car jouney would be too much for her. Our only option seems to be rail travel, but we haven't a clue how to go about planning it - prices - route - journey times. We want the fastest journey possible. Is there some sort of European rail ticket for a set period, or do we have to get tickets for each stage of the journey?

How many changes will we have to make? Can anybody help?

There is a very informative site for European rail travel called 'www.seat61.com'.

They explain in detail rail travel from the UK to major cities in Croatia, how to book tickets and prices.

Let me know how you go on as we might consider doing the journey next year.

Have you looked into bus travel, at least for the portion from Zagreb to Zadar? The train takes more than double the time on this leg.
