We will be in Suva as well as Lautoka for one day while cruising next February. Looking for a recommendation of a good tour guide for both cities so that we can see something while docked.
You can book day tours through Rosie Tours or hire a driver from Tourist Transport Fiji or Pacific Destinations. Alternatively get a taxi driver to take you where you want but that's not as good an option now as they have to meter trips. You used to be able to just negotiate a price for the day. You may be better to book your cruisetours to ensure you get back to the ship in time for departure :)
I had a very good experience with a local guide Pe-Te (pronounced Pet-eh) who spoke English well. He does a lot of free lance tours and can customise to what you want to see and do.
His contact number is +6799066771. Give him a call to discuss options. I found that he got me into the ZIP Fiji attractions (which is excellent by the way) for about half the price listed on the website.
My experience is that the day tours organized by the cruise ship itself are extremely expensive and it is better to make your own arrangements as suggested. The only bad thing about this is to make sure that you get back to the ship before it sails or you will be left behind. The ship waits for the tours organized by them but not for private tours.
