Anybody ever been to Kadavu? |
|
Any input about your experiences there would be appreciated. I'm going for 7 nights in early April with my wife and 2 children (9 and 11). Best things to do if you're not a diver?? Report as inappropriate |

i have written many notes on Kadavu, check out the Kadavu posts. We stayed at Matava...unbelievable...There was a family just before us and the little girl, while visting the village, wanted to go to school. Each day, the school children would walk from the village and get the girl, returning her each day. The place is magical. If you need any more asstitance, let me know. Google Matava.com and talk with Jeanie, Please tell her that Carla and PEter from Idaho sent you. You won't forget this place. Food is wonderful, the place is an organic farm. enjjoy Report as inappropriate

BULA from Fiji - Three cheers for Matava! It's a wonderful Eco Resort. Best things to do: Snorkel by kayak Kayak to a village (you can even spend the night in the village and kayak back for a unique native experience) Do a waterfall trek Visit the small, uninhabited outer island for sandy beaches and snorkeling Go deep sea fishing for a day Vist the villagers Take a "resort course" - it just takes a couple of hours, then you can dive while you are there! Most of all, enjoy this rugged, unique island and the wonderful people from Matava. You will probably hear back from Richard, who normally answers their emails. Tell all of them (Richard, Jeannie, or Adrian) that Susan from Fiji highly recommends Matava! Report as inappropriate

Surprise! Considering Fiji huh? I went to Kadavu i July of 96 as part of a 3 week stay for my third trip to Fiji. Was there for a week. Unlike Charley we stayed at a resort that wasn't quite everything we wanted, staff was great, location decent but the skeeters were unbearable. I blamed this mainly on the resort which didn't even have screens on the bures! We also never saw the sun but that can be blamed on the time of year. That part of Fiji is subject to lots of cloud in "winter". When we got to Plantation Island it was nothing but sun. We did the same things mentioned by the others and the snorkeling I did at the Astrolabe reef was very memorable. If you want something outside the Mamanuca group than you could do worse. It wouldn't be my first choice but it's a laid back island with some stunning water and beach to be found. Great for culture as well if that's important. Since you have been to Bora Bora I would sugges something along the lines of Qamea, Matangi, or Yasawa Island. Nothing in Fiji loos like Bora Bora or even comes close, but most resorts on on their own island and you will have a mellower feel. I didn't think anything could replace Tahiti, and maybe in a way nothing ever did, but I sure love Fiji and have been 12 times since 1994. Pub Report as inappropriate
