We just spent the best vacation of my life and i travel. We started off with the barefoot sailing safari, then OK YOU WERE ALL RIGHT, we came back to the main land and stayed at the Hideaway, whick our travel agent did. I cried , I hated it, after the barefoot island and we left and lost alot of money. We went back out to the Yasawas and have an adventure on Nacula...wonderful. THEN to Kadavu,,,,that was amazing...I wouldn't have done well on the big restorts in the Yasawa...I enjoyed the dancing with the fijiansa and walking into the villages...anyone want to know. write back...vinaka

Charle, Why is everyone so negative about the main island? My husband and I are planning to stay ten nights in late Jan, I was thinking five on the main and five on an outer, what do you think?

The first thing that we did was the captain cook sailing safari, unbelievable...we took off from the marina, listening to the crew play music...then we stopped to snorkle on a reef off Vomo Island. I have snorkeled all over the world. This was the best. We get to our island, Drawanga, Barefoot (all sand no one wears shoes, EVER) and to our beach front bure. No electricity, on screens on the windows and this place was just heaven. We hand line fished, went to villages, did the best snorkeling just off our beach. The staff and crew was very organized and personable. We danced at night and drank kava, while they sang. We snorkeled again on the way back to the marina. The food and atmosphere was Fiji.

Then we went to the Hidaway for a week. I cried when we drove in. They were doing horseracing in the disco and bunny hopping to the bar...in the am , aerobics in the pool. I immediately went to Rosies and booked a trip on the Yasawa Flyer (wow, is that efficient) BACK out to the Yasawa to Oarsman Bay...We again, had soft white beaches, no shoes, snorkeled, sat in hammocks and ate. I walked the beach everyday and no banana boats in sight. We went reef hopping to snorkel, and had a wonderful time. I hated to leave. They sing farewell songs as the boat left..sniff

Then to the airport to fly to Kadavu. There is the smallest airport in the world there, with a stick for the security!!!

We met our boat man and took an 45min ride to the resort Kadavu has no roads, so i just kept looking at the jungle, wondering if i had pushed my limit of comfort. After arriving at MATAVA (matava.com wonderful website), we just loved the place. By far, this was the most romantic and best food that we had. No electricity, eating by lantern, snorkeling on the astroble reef, walking to the village, watching the local boys dive...i just can't tell you enough about how i feel i got the FIJIAN experience.

I would not have been happy at any of the resorts that everyone talks about on this forum. I dont' want banana boats, jet ski, you could be anywhere...

This worked for me and i can't wait to go back and make more Fijian friends.

Any questions, charley48@cox.net Carla Henrie
