Does anyone have a recommendation for a mid price range place to stay? We have stayed at various places in Fiji before and enjoy bure style accommodation as long as it is comfortable, cool and not too basic. The food must be good too. We have an adult son coming with us who loves to dive so our preference is for something suitable for him and also a relaxing place to swim, walk, explore and enjoy the wonderful Fijian life-style for us.

Naigani Island, Warwick, First Landing, Castaway, Wananavu. Most of these are reasonably up-market but we don't require quite this style this time. Our son has stayed at Beachcomber and a couple of more budget places and would like somewhere else to go to experience the diving.

Try Hideaway resort on the Coral coast- basically answers yes to all your questions. Lovely bures, good food, Fantastic staff (as pretty much everywhere in Fiji) and not too big. Great diving from the resort, on the coast so you can go off for day trips inland (white water rafting or jet boating...) or to a small island.

Have you possibly considered a cruise I to am an avid diver/snorkeller hence the reason we did the cruise to the yasawas with blue lagaoon this feb. They have some great deals on at the moment we paid 499.00 for a 2 night cruise and got upgraded to a 3night cruise. You can't beat it for price and the food was great the boat very intimate and friendly only 29 of us on board. Seem to be feeding us every 2 hrs. All homemade we even had a lady who was gluten intolerent and they would make here special bread and meals to order hows that for service. The captain even stopped the boat in a bay for me because after our island visit I was so hot that I asked if I could have another swim/ snorkel and the others onboard said OH!! he wont stop the boat for you but he did.... howz that for vip service.

BULA NZ!

Everyone has their own idea of "mid range" - so here are a few suggestions for you based on what I think of as mid range:

If diving is important, I'd skip the Mamanucas entirely. Diving is best where there the nutrients flow in and out of the area. The Mamanucas have hard corals, but have limited (if any) soft corals - and those are what makes Fiji so spectacular for diving.

Head to the Yasawas - and in particular, Nanuya Island Resort.

Or, for fabulous diving head to Kadavu Island. Matava is wonderful, diving is superb. If that's too basic for you, try Papageno, which is also on Kadavu.

Or, head to Taveuni. Try Garden Island Resort - great dive resort.

For fantastic diving and a superb experience, check out Beqa Lagoon Resort on Beqa Island. The Beqa Lagoon is world famous for diving. But, then again, so is the Somosomo Straits and Rainbow Reef in Taveuni, and the Great Astrolabe Reef in Kadavu.

Those are the best for diving in Fiji - which would give you the full Fiji experience. All of these are bure-style, and you can't miss. Matava is a bit more adventure oriented and you won't be doing as much swimming, more exploring and adventuring - but the others have relaxing elements to them.

ENJOY!
