Manchu Picchu Trek with Children. Which Tour Operator?

Hi, we are looking to do the Machu Picchu trek in Jan 2014 with our two children who will be 16 and 11 respectively. Can anyone recommend child friendly trekking operators please.

By Macchu Picchu trek, do you mean the 4 day Inca Trail?

If so, I can highly highly recommend Llama Path. We went through them and they were nothing short of amazing. I almost felt bad given how good the quality of our food was (they even baked us a cake on our final day!!!) and how comfortable we were....sorry..I like traveling the hard way.

Of course, this is from 2009 and things can change.......but if they are anything like what they were in 2009, you will have the time of your life.

The trek is totally safe to do with kids, but make sure all of you have the stamina...the 2nd day when you climb Dead Woman's pass can be tough if you are not in shape.

Btw...is Jan a good time to go? Generally the July-Aug period is the best time I thought.....we went in August.

5. Re: Manchu Picchu Trek with Children. Which Tour Operator?

For those that are interested we asked out Tour Operator (Llama Path) what was the youngest age child they took on Inca Trail and Salkantay treks. They said a 4 year old did the Inca Trail and the parents hired an extra porter to carry the child if necessary but the kid was fine and faired better than the parents and did not get tired! On the Salkantay they said the youngest was 9. Anyway, just thought it was an intereting factoid.
