No, I will check it out. Do you recommend it?

It is a tourist service that costs much less than the train, follows a similar route, but includes several stops of interest. Recommended. Cruz del Sur was at one point running a similar service, not sure if they still do.

If you read these forums, you will see that it is pretty much NEVER suggested that tourists rent a car, going to or from anywhere.

I also recommend to check the Inka Express Bus. Currently Cruz del Sur does not offer this service.

I remember a recent post (from February?) in the Spanish-language forum saying that Cruz del Sur is going to resume their Puno - Cusco itinerary beginning on April 24, or maybe it's just the regular bus service (not the tour bus).

The buses and trains all follow the same route so its not like you will miss out on scenery. The difference may be comfort, speed, and price. The train is more comfortable however it takes longer while the buses are quicker and cheaper. The fastest option , and also more expensive, will be to fly from Cusco to Juliaca airport and then hire a taxi to take you into Puno which is about 45 minutes away.
