weather for cusco stay and how to get to peru

we have 3 weeks starting early april 2013 to visit peru. Cusco of course is in our agenda but also other areas of the north and interior but begining to get concerned about the rainy season for that time of the year.. also in the north.

2nd q has to do how to get from mexico DC into lima or cusco for that matter. Lan appears the most reliable but tickets are really high.

any reliable low cost alternatives??.

would appreciate your comments in as much detail as possible.

many thanks

There are many airlines which fly into Lima. Just us a seach engine such as these to find flights to LIM.

www.vayama.com

www.travelocity.com

www.expedia.com

www.kayak.com

As for getting to Cusco from Lima there are a few options.

www.lan.com DO NOT BOOK BASE OR BASE PLUS FARES

www.taca.com DO NOT BOOK PROMO FARES

www.starperu.com

www.peruvianairlines.pe

www.lcperu.pe

LAN and TACA may be the more expensive but they also offer international flights and sometimes have really good deals where if you fly to Peru with them you can get a domestic flight for cheap or even free. Flight cancellations and delays for domestic flights in Peru is quite common and the old addage of "you get what you pay for" is definately true. LAN may be the most expensive but with the amount of departures they offer you should feel comfortable that even with delays or cancelations you will still make your flight that day which cant be said for some other carriers.

I would think Aeromexico is your best bet for international flights.

If you are traveling over a holiday you may find higher fares no matter who you go with, may be shifting your stay a day or two will help.

Book with Lan or Taca and include the Lima to Cusco flight on same airline to get reduced rates.

In April the rainy season has already ended.

I would suggest a booking engine (like Orbits or Expedia) for the Mexico to Lima leg and Star Peru for the Lima Cusco, of course look into package flights but I think you will find the other option the cheapest. As for reliability, we fly several times a year between Cusco and Lima on Star Peru and have never had any trouble, what you are really paying for on LAN and Taca is a portion of a local’s ticket, not better service.

As for weather, yes it should be nice here as it is the end of the rainy season, if needed; you can always purchase a cheap umbrella while you are here for about $4 or plastic poncho for about $1.50
