Budgeting for food cost

I am heading to Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu this June... any idea on how much i should budget per day for food? THANKS!

isn´t an easy answer because it depends of you the average cost $5 for lunch

Once you get to Cusco you have a slowly digestion and is better don´t eat too much.

Breakfast is include in hotel rates

I agree with aremisa. When I went to Cuzco and Puno in Aug. 2003, I ate very little due to the altitude.

The coca tea worked for me and I loved drinking it all the time. I also made sure I budgeted enough time to eat slowly (each meal).

5 USD per day sounds about right. Say 10 if you want to be sure.

Food in Peru is excellent.

I would spare some money for at least 1 or 2 good restaurants which will need a budget of about US$ 40 per head with some wine.

If not, you can find food at as low as US$1 for a menu which includes a soup a dish, dessert and a drink, but I would not risk it for hygiene and health purposes.

The 5 to 10 bucks per day per head is a good estimate.
