First time visitor to Santiago

This is my first visit to South America. I am attending a conference in Santiago in late Oct and have a 2 full day break. Any suggestions on what are the must sees and must trys and must buys for a first time visitor? Thanks!

There are various alternative, visit the Cerro San Cristobal Park and take the cable car or the funicular, take a morning to stroll through downtown, visiting perhaps the Museo Precolombino, the Mercdo Central and th Museo Bellas Artes. Go to the Feria de Artesenia at Los Dominidos. If there remains time visit some wineries.

Many thanks for your advice. Any suggestions on what are must buys in Chile, other then wine (I can't bring it back) and lapis lazuli (it's costly)? Also is there a weekend fair/market where I can pick up some local products and handicrafts? I was told that Havana shoes are really cheap in Chile. Is that true? Thanks again

If Havaianas are flip-flops, then they are cheap here, about 3-4 dollars, and they are already in the department stores and supermarkets.

The Santa Lucia Craft market near the Sta Lucia hill is a good spot for looking at handicrafts.

Further afield, in Las Condes, is the more upmarket Los Dominicos craft village. You can still find bargains there and you can have a bite to eat and watch some craftsmen working.
