Its better to stay on the mainland. You will save time (& money) in visiting different places. If you in Singapore for say 8-9 days, then one can stay at Sentosa for a couple of days just for the feel.

Agree with the above.. Unless you have more than a week in spore, can consider a couple of night stay in sentosa.. Otherwise, stay in mainland and visit Sentosa as a day trip.. Very accessible..

THe mainland has a wider variety of hotels in both budget range and facility range, so its far more likely on simple numbers odds for a random tourist to find what they want there. Its also overall easier to access the entirety of Singapore from the mainland, although the increase in traffic and transport options have narrowed that gap considerably over the last few years.

Added to that the hotel choice on the island has leapt up with RWS appearing. So if any given hotel on Sentosa suits you best however, then go for it - at that point the wider variety around the city becomes irrelevant. Just accept that it will take a little extra time to get off the island any day and if that is too much hassle for you then the city and visiting Sentosa will win.

Advantages of Staying on Sentosa... Better choice of family accommodation, walking distance for things to do with kids ( universal studios, Adventure cove, Maritime Museum, Beach, Sentosa attractions, next to largest mall mall in Singapore, more laid back relaxed resort feel. At the moment there are free ticket offers if you staŷ in the Resort World Hotels.

Advantages of stayin in the City - bigger choice of hotels ( may need 2 rooms with 3 kids), walking distance to malls and cultural sites and city centre sites, closer to the MRT depending on your chosen hotel, bigger dinning options.

For getting to places like the Zoo, Bird Pak, Night Safari and River Safari as you will be Taking a taxi with 3 kids it makes no differance if you stay on Sentosa or the Mainland.

Personally I hate moving - to me the whole rigmarole of packing (organising the kids in your case to do that), checking out, transferring and checking in and unpacking simply is not worth the hassle just to be close to either the City or Sentosa's attractions given how easy it is to transfer on a day to day basis.

There are reasons to move (eg wanting a night ot two in say Raffles and then doing the rest of the stay in a cheaper place is a common one) but to me simply 'being near' isnt enough, in this case. Others' mileage does vary....
