Honeymoon in Boracay with Airasia + ZestAir (2009)

I have booked my flight tickets with Airasia which will land on Clark Airport on Nov 3, 2009

From there, I will take the shuttle bus to SM Megamall.

I will spend a day (Overnight) in The Malayan Plaza which is just behind the SM Megamall.

The next day, Nov 4, 2009, I will take Zest Air from Manila Domestic Airport to Caticlan Airport which will then proceed to Boracay Island for 4 days...

In my return, I will spend one more night in Manila in the same hotel before leaving in the earliest morning the next day to catch the shuttle bus to Clark Airport with Airasia on my way home...

Is there anything that I need to be extra cautious with? This is the first time I reach philippine.. heard that it is not so decent experience which someppl has...

Seek your advise...

Can anyone tell us what are the condition in Manila now? Is it flooded?

How is the airport? Is it running as BAU?

Is Zestair still flying to Kalibo Airport or Caticlan ? Please advise...

MANILA (AFP) – Typhoon Mirinae smashed through the Philippines overnight, killing eleven people and worsening floods in areas that were struggling to recover from recent deadly storms, officials said Saturday.

The typhoon, packing winds of up to 185 kilometres (115 miles) an hour, was the third major storm to hit the Philippines' main island of Luzon in just five weeks, with the previous two claiming more than 1,100 lives.

In Manila, areas that have been flooded since Tropical Storm Ketsana struck in late September were hit with more heavy rain, while residents in other districts were forced onto their roofs to escape rising waters.

"We need help because the waters have risen. We need rubber boats and choppers," Ariel Magcales, the mayor of Santa Cruz town on Manila's outskirts, said in a radio interview.

"Some people are on the roofs of their houses."

Military and police rescue boats worked to save people who were trapped by a flash flood, officials said.

One man was found dead and his one-year-old baby was missing after they were washed away while trying to cross an overflowing creek in a rural area on the outskirts of Manila, the military said.

Three people were reported dead and five others were missing in Laguna province just south of Manila, the local disaster monitoring office said.

Seven people died in the Bicol region, south of Manila, mostly from flash floods, local disaster monitoring officials said.

Another man was missing from a Manila slum district after his hut was washed away, while two others were missing in Batangas province south of Manila after their car fell into a river when a bridge collapsed, said civil defence spokesman Ernesto Torres.

Tropical Storm Ketsana, which struck on September 26, caused massive flooding in Manila.

Even before Mirinae hit, outlying districts that are home to more than a million people were expected to remain flooded into the New Year, raising concern among health experts of an outbreak of deadly disease.

Navy and coast guard boats had been sent to Santa Cruz to rescue people, according to Torres, who said Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro was heading to the area to check on the extent of flooding and damage.

"The waters were really high. It was like a flash flood. It was waist deep in our area but in other areas it went as high as the rooftops," said traffic director Marlon Albay.

The highway to the town was covered by knee-high waters, preventing smaller vehicles from reaching it and prompting the military to send huge trucks to help residents, according to an AFP photographer.

Hundreds of residents in these areas were seen wading through the dirty waters.

Other towns in Laguna reported flooding, along with areas in the Bicol region further to the south, Torres said.

However, more than 115,000 people had been evacuated from vulnerable regions before the typhoon hit, which likely prevented more deaths, Torres said.

The typhoon caused power outages and knocked down trees across many areas of Manila, a sprawling city of 12 million people.

It also forced flights to be suspended on Saturday morning from Manila's international airport.

Ferries, a popular form of transport in the Southeast Asian archipelago, were also cancelled, ruining travel plans for many who were hoping to head to their hometowns for the All Saints' Day long-weekend public holiday.

As of 5:00 pm (0900 GMT), the typhoon had left Luzon and was charted 670 kilometres west of Manila, moving away from the country at 20 kilometres per hour, the government weather station said.

OnnMalaysia - all answers to your questions are stated in this thread - just keep on reading, before putting your panic stricken post three times here. If you are so afraid of the weather you better look for another destination. Another TD = Tropical Depression is on the way and as sad it is, it will cost more lives. Every Depression or Typhoon kills some people in this country.

No need to worry the one you have have read Sta. Cruz Manila is a flood zone area, as far as I know in the height of the storm where in it said Manila is in signal number 3 which is supposed tobe a high alert level warning my wife and other relatives was able to travel Pangasinan during the afternoon with out a fuss, and that way is a same way you will track going to Manila from Clark so no worries at all, let me just make it simple for you the airport is not located in Manila as in the capital like you read in Sta.Cruz the airport is in Paranaque City which is next to Pasay City. Go on with your trip and see for yourself about the worries you are thinking and you might say its not bad at all the way you are thinking it. And if your are staying in Makati or Ortigas area this areas are not afffected at all by the typhoon all you have to worry is the traffic jams during rush hours.

The Pulis only shows presence now for the Miss Earth contest to show eventual media people, that they are in control. Once the contest is over, the Pulis goes back to sleeping, texting, chatting with illegal vendors and driving along the beach path, because walking is so strenous

I will definitely go back to Philippine again... esp Boracay Island.. It is heaven....

People: Philippino speaks good english & they treat tourists very good. They don't cheat or con people / tourists. You can find Philippino's great hospitality.

Place: The Boracay Beach itself is very nice already. You don't really need to go for Island Hoping because swimming at the Boracay Beach itself is fun enough...

Sea Water / weather: The weather is sunny everyday during my visit. It rains during midnite but only for 5 - 10 minutes. Although it is hot sun but you won't actually sweat....

Food: U can find grilled pork / sea food there easily. The price is cheap. U can enjoy buffet with minimum 250 peso at most of the sea-view restaurants...

Hotels: Depends on your budget. Range from 1000 Peso onwards... I stayed in Boracay Regency Beach Resort which is in the middle of Boat Station 2. Boat Station 2 is a very happening place where u can see many ppl walking around & most shops are there... incl D Mall. If you want privacy, u can stay at Shangrila... But for me, that is a bit far from the crowd.

Transportation: I travel by Airasia from KL to Clark Airport. then I take Shuttle Bus to Manila. From Manila, I take ZestAir to Kalibo Airport. Free Van Transfer to Caticlan Port. Then take boat to Boracay Port. From there, take tricyle to your hotel... Seems a bit complicated but no worry... do more research, phillipino is very happy to help you with smile on their faces....

Perhaps not you, but other people would miss out on a lovely day out if they didn't explore the scenery around the island, go snorkeling, and get away from the crowds on White Beach!
