i stayed at big apple and wouldnt stay there again. i found the pool to be dirty and there were no dive instructors there at the resort and no dive courses run. the rooms are very noisy as close to the bar and restuarant which has very loud music going all night.

the house keeping and cleanliness of rooms is substandard and very hot in rooms.

restaurant food is average and you cant have a beer or meal without being harrassed by the many hawkers and beggars that virtually touch you while you eat and the staff do nothing to move them on.

the water at the front of the resort is dirty and oily due to all the boats coming in here.

in my opinion much better to stay further along the beach in small laguna where beach and water is much nicer and alot more peaceful.

overall i think big apple resort is poor quality and poor customer service, relying on their central location rather than good business. i wont be staying there again. also beware of there cancellation policy as i have heard they try to rip people off. dan - sydney

Big Apple do not rip people of, that's a very malicious comment.

Their pool is also the cleanest and clearest in all Puerto, I should know, I've stayed everywhere. Their dive operation is top notch too. I had a great time with my friends their and can't wait to go back again. Best value for money in Galera.

Restaurant is better now that they have a Louisiana chef.

Dave is his name and he can cook.

Try the roast beef sandwiches.

Cant speak to the food.

Just spent a week at Big Apple to scuba dive. I normally dive in Monterey California. (Cold, Dark, kelpy, turbulent, and expensive) Sabang is a wonderful experience and if you are adventurous, flexible, its a bargain resort. Resort Summary: I had a two bedroom deluxe for about $31 it wasn't fancy but clean other rooms are available at various price increases. Water supply good with warm water, small fridge, no room safe, bed was very comfortable foam mattress. We were in the older bungalows, air conditioner worked fine despite being a little run down. Room furniture a bit dated but clean. I was concerned about the lock on our door as it’s not well constructed and would not stop anyone from breaking in. However security and household staff are always watching and very attentive. You can rent a locker 100php for your stay to store valuables next to reception area. I was pleasantly surprised how quit it was at night. No sound from the pub or restaurant or from outside the compound. Note: No Fire Alarm in room, but this is noticeable almost everywhere in Sabang. Household help was exceptional, they were constantly cleaning up behinds us whenever we returned from a dive (sometimes 3x a day) sweeping and cleaning. Laundry you need to be patient as they hang it out to dry no dryer at least at the time we were there.

This resort has its own generator and water pumping station, so you’re not left in the dark and without water when Sabang utilities go down. Staff from Housekeeping, security, reception, and pub was extremely helpful and friendly. Yes there are allot of aggressive peddlers right outside the walkway in front of the resort (There everywhere) Peddlers do not enter the resort area and once they know you and if you are firm with them they will leave you alone. The pub is extremely popular because of bargain pricing, pool tables and friendly staff. The music is kept at a very reasonable quite volume. The covered restaurant is right next to the pub, menu is extensive, reasonably priced, served promptly and was quite tasty. Unfortunately there is no restrictions on smoking, I left a recommendation to ban it at least in the dining area. There is a consistent breeze and you need to position yourself away from smokers, fortunately there weren’t too many of them.

WIFI: If you bring your own laptop, its free with hot spots located in the pool area and restaurant.

Swimming pool area: very popular except the filter pump wasn’t working for a few days, it was still clear and clean as a pool attendant was constantly filtering any leaves.

Scuba Diving: I brought my own gear but they had bargain pricing (900php) per dive including gear. This is the lowest price in Sabang. Rental equipment was relatively new oceanic rental equipment. They use a 10 passenger banka boat with dive ladder. Dives were normally no more than 6 people with Australian dive master, Filipino boat captains and assistant. Dive briefing held at small dive workshop, dive master will pair up divers based on their abilities, divers carry their personal gear to the boat, BCD’s and tanks carried to boat by staff. (I’ve seen several “high end” resorts where the divers are lugging all their gear to the boat. Once on board a short 2-15 minute ride to dive site (Verde Island: 1hr). At the site, staff assist you in getting your gear on, provide another short brief, then dive master leads the group. (Jason: very professional and informative)

Once the dive master is aware of your capabilities he will allow the more experience divers to continue their dive while escorting the novices to the surface. On the more difficult dives, Dive Master will dive into the area to check for current prior to the group entering. At the end of the dive, assistance is provided to remove gear, on return you decide if you want to continue to dive or bail out. BCD and Tanks are removed from the boat for you. During your interval or if you end your dive, staff will disassemble and rinse your gear and store it. They provide PADI training, my dive buddy completed his wreck diving cert and I was able participated with him on the skills portion on the Alma Ray without additional cost.

Overall Big Apple: Fantastic Bargain all around and very professional friendly staff.
