I am back from Yogya. Stayed at Athaya Homestay. It was very good. The host was very welcoming and the place was relatively new since he only started the homestay business for over a year.
Visited Malioboro, (had our dokar ride and becak ride), Borobudur, Prambanan and Ansor's Silverworks. We went to Mt Merapi look-out point at Kaliadem and had a clear view from Desa Umulharjo. (I think that's the name of the village) We also managed to visit our friend at Desa Cabekidul, Srumbung, Magelang. Glad to know that she and her family were ok except that they lost their salak plantation and a section of their house collapsed due to the volcanic ash.
We were spoilt for choice for food. Went to Man Engking. The grilled prawns were nice and fresh that we went back again during our last night. Had dinner at Bale Raos (where they had a keroncong performance. Ordered the Beer Jawa. Very good! ), Went to Bale Bengong for lunch on our way to Prambanan and had a scrumptious seafood lunch. Even had a taste of Soto Pak Soleh near where we stayed.
Athaya Homestay with their transport partner, ALIF, handled our transport needs. We rented an innova during our stay. The driver, Zandi, was very professional and capable, and as it turned out, full of knowledge which we unabashedly tapped into.
In a nutshell, we had a fabulous time in Yogya. This is our 3rd time in Yogya, our last visit was in 2004. We will definitely not wait that long for our next visit.
Meanwhile, a big thank you to all you Yogya experts in this forum.
