Hi there, my wife, brother and his partner are taking our first trip to Bali this coming Wednesday. I was planning on taking Australian dollars and changing it over there, bar the $25 US entry fee and about 50,000 rupiah each that we've already changed just to get us started.
I found a website for a Bali money changer that has several locations and display their current rates which were $1 AUD- 9,970 IDR on Friday and we also rang our hotel to find out whether they offer money change which they do and it was $1 AUD- 9,800 IDR on Friday.
My wife is worried that its a bit sketchy to be carrying around a heap of money. She is a Commonwealth bank customer and I read there are comm. ATMs located all over the place and the fee for withdrawal is $2. I'm just wondering if there is a way to find out what the current exchange rates are? If they are within that 9,700-9,900 range it may be the safer option than carrying a couple of thousand dollars around.
I suppose another option is to only carry what we'll need for the day + a little bit for unexpected purchases and then keep the rest in a safety deposit box at the hotel.
Can anyone suggest where I might find the Commbank ATM rates? Or if anyone remembers the rate they got whether it was close to the money changer rate?
Or any other money safety tips would be greatly appreciated.
