Nyepi Day 2013 - 12 March

Hi everyone,

at the moment we have booked Sanur hotel 08-12 March 2012

then we head off to Legian from 12-21 March 2013.

Will we be able to get a taxi form Sanur to Legian on 12 March - Nyepi Day - or should we alter dates of our accommodation.

All help will be appreciated.

Regards Joe

No chance of taxis. You are not permitted to even leave your hotel grounds on Nyepi day.

You will have to move hotels on either the 11th or the 13th. Decide which area you want to see the Ogoh Ogoh parades at and go from there.

We were in Bali for nyepi this year.

Hard to believe but you cannot leave your hotel or villa for the whole day.

We were staying in a villa and stocked up on great food from Bali deli and had a great relaxing day eating and drinking.

Hey Joe,

They recon that the date is not set in stone till towards the end of the year.

The date is set as Nyepi has to fall on the day following the dark moon of the spring equinox, but the Government don't officially name it as a holiday until later in the year before.

The date of Nyepi is always set in stone. It will not change regardless. What people get confused with, is that the date of Nyepi has to be declared by the Indonesian Gov as a public holiday. Regardless, it will be held on the date set by the Gregorian calendar, not by the Indonesian Gov.

It will always be a Balinese holiday.
