Macau Sightseeing Tour, or do it ourselves? Please help

Hi there,

We're planning a day trip to Macau from Hong Kong. Hopefully we will arrive in Macau around 10.00am or so.

The things we're interested in are the Grand Prix Museum and going up the Macau Tower (for a look round, not to do any of the adventure activities up there). We obviously want to see the 'must do' sights, as well, which I gather from this forum would include St Paul's Ruins, St Augustine Church and Senado Square.

On the Macau Tourism web site there are details of numerous sightseeing tours, There is one in particular - Itinerary 2 with Agencia de Vaigens e de Turison Estoril - that seems to include the museum and tower and lots more besides. The price also seems extremely cheap - only MOP98, which includes entrance to the tower and museum, apparently.

My question is, would anybody recommend this tour package? What would be the pros and cons?

Alternatively, would you recommend we: arrive by ferry, travel to the Grand Prix museum (how?), next travel to the Senado Square area (how?) and walk round all the sites there. Possibly even walk all the way down to the Tower? And then finally make our way back to the ferry terminal (how?).

All help will be most gratefully received. Thank you very much in advance. (apologies for posting this in both Macau and HK forums).

Hi, entrance to Macau tower is MOP75,and entrance to Grand Prix museum is MOP10.

Total :MOP85.00, so balance of MOP13.00 from the MOP98 itinerary 2 from Agencia de Vaigens e de Turison Estoril.

Well, pros-unless you are familiar with the bus routes(though we could help here), and bus fare is a fixed MOP2.50, i.e. giving you five bus rides-so must plan carefully your bus rides, not to exceed five rides. So, let do the bus rides computation:-

1. Bus 32 from Macau Ferry Terminal to Macau Tower. MOP2.50;Alight.This is to stretch your Pataca, because Bus 32 also stops close to CAT, where Grand Prix Museum and Wine Museum are.

2. From Macau Tower, bus # 18 or 21 to AMa temple and Maritime Musuem. Alight. MOP2.50

3. Bus # 18/21A to St Paul's Ruins, Senado Sq, St.Augustine Church.Alight.MOP2.50

4. Then bus #3 to CAT.Alight.MOp2.50

5. Then any bus that passes CAT to Macau Ferry Terminal direction.MOP2.50.

Pros is of course flexibility of time where you can spend time around the sights, and not following a regimented time constrained schedule with packaged itinerary(this is the con). By the way, did itinerary two state how long (duration) is the itinerary.

Lastly, do bear in mind, Grand Prix and Wine museums are closed on Tuesday. In fact, if you are into wine, combine Grand Prix and Wine, for a entrance fees of MOP20.00,and you also get free Portugese wine tasting(and as I need coming out of the musuem, with a face of a lobster, and adjourning to the Military Club(there is a Portugese restaurant over here for bacalhau(codfish) with vinho verde(Portugese green wine).

Do not be too worried, Macau is a relatively small place, and in fact, when you arrive at the ferry terminal there is a Macau Tourist Information Counter where you can pick up free maps(make sure, to pick one up in bilingual(in fact even triangular, viz. Chinese, english and Portugese), bus route maps.

Just relax, do not be too rigid with time, maybe even spend a night in Macau, otherwise, go back with a night sailing on Turbojet to arrive in HK island, then take a Star Ferry across to Kowloon to see the night landscape of buildings(htat is if you are staying in Kowloon), otherwise, a nightcap at Soho or LKF before returning back to your HK hotel.

Have a pleasant trip . Tip-if possible, please try not to this day trip to MFM from HK on a weekend or befalling a HK/Macau public holiday.
