help with hotel and things to do and see

We are arriving in HK enroute home to UK from Australia at 1745 on Friday 24 Nov and departing at 2345 on 25th November. Have read loads on message boards and am now confused as to where to stay and what to see.

We have never been to HK before. Would like to see main attractions, experience the real HK and also have time for shopping - all sorts - shops and markets.

Where should we stay? Ideas would be welcome. Thanks

Try this link for further information:

A good place to start is the official Hong Kong Tourist Board website

which provides you with a full list of things to see; see:

www.discoverhongkong.com

Where you stay may depend on your budget and what you want to see.

Few cities in the world offer the choices that Hong Kong does in terms of locations to stay and types of accomodation.

Since you only have one day, if you have some energy, you may wish to consider this quickie do it yourself tour:

or at least it may help give you some ideas.

I,ve nothing to add to Rob's itinery in that link. We've been to H.K. twice, and I'll be checking with Rob before we go again .

As for where to stay, any hotel in Central (Hong Kong side), or Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon side) depending on your budget. However I found there was a greater choice of restaurants ( Italian, Thai etc..)in Central.

The transport system is great , and it's easy to get to all the markets from either side.

We found the Peak Tram the hardest place to get to, because we walked to the station from the harbour, and did'nt realise how far up the hill the station was! That said it was well worth it . If it's a clear day the views are amazing.

Phredd.

P.S.

All of Hong Kong is the real Hong Kong ,most people seem far to busy to notice tourists.

P.P.S.

Get one of these at the airport.

octopuscards.com/consumer/…loan.jsp.

Gives you a free return trip on the airport express train, and then you use the credit on it for all your transport. MTR, buses, trams, etc..

any money left on the card when you leave can be reclaimed , minus a small "on loan "fee. Saves buying tickets, and having the right change for machines
