Thinking on staying in Sha Tin and wondered how long it would take to travel to Shenzen Airport and which would be the best route.
It should take around 2 hours to Shenzhen Airport (inc. 30 minutes on MTR East Rail Line to Lo Wu). At Shenzhen (Luohu side), there are a few public buses and minibuses to Shenzhen airport. However, there will hardly be any English signs over on the Mainland China side. Overall cost should be under HK$200.
Otherwise, there should be coaches (there are some from the airport and from Kowloon MTR Tong Station Public Interchange). Same cost, maybe even cheaper.
Catch the MTR East rail to Lo Wu. Cross the border. This should take an hour. Once across the border, exit the immigration building and head to the right into the bus station. Towards the far end of the bus station, you will find a white minibus with 'Shenzhen airport' written on it in English. The fare is 20 Rmb and it takes around 45 minutes.
The more comfortable (but costlier) option is to take MTR East Rail to Lok Ma Chau and cross the border there. The facilities are much more modern and less crowded. Once you walk across the air conditioned indoor bridge (3 minutes with automated walkways) to the Chinese side, clear Chinese immigration and customs at Fu Tian, head down stairs and get a taxi to Shenzhen Airport. The cost is about RMB150.
Lok Ma Chau is much better. It opened very recently (2007) and few people use it for the sake of convenience to downtown Shenzhen (prefers Lo Wu).
