this message for overseas chinese to joing tours in hk.

surprise surprise!! we went to 4 different travel tour agencies, hong thai, wing on, china travel service and a small one. only hong thai would accept visa or mastercard for payments!!! i asked the wing on guy, he said wing on does not accept credit cards anymore as they are not allowed to charge the 2% service charge. also, you may not be able to go to those less popular places as they are either not offerred or no one has signed up for it other than you.

if you plan to join those tours in hk, you better bring cash or travellers cheques. you can't go back to the same bank to cash your cash the next day either!! thats what heng sang bank said. you have to go to another branch. i also checked those moeny exchangers in chung king mansion. it is worth it if you cash less than 3-5 hundred canadian dollars. china bank and hsbc(only for customers with acocunts there) dont offer money exchange.

Previously, most merchants that accept credit card payments would receive their money from their banks (the "acquiring banks") after a few days.

Some, including travel agents, have complained that their banks have recently extended this period to 30 or even 60 days (to protect themselves in case the merchants go bellyup). That would explain why the agencies that you visited were unwilling to accept plastic.
