Hi

Am visiting HK in Dec staying at Metropark Causeway Bay, can anyone recommend a hairdressers where I can have my hair permanently straightened? I have non oriental hair. I understand from a Chinese friend that HK is about one third of the price of uk.

thank you

one third???

your friends getting conned!!!

i asked for shiseido products (the salon's most expensive product) and only paid $800

which at the time is £50

tony and guy quoted me £300 + and that was 4 years ago

best thing about *fu lay chi* (chinese word for your reference) it leaves you with incredible silky hair, you never ever had!!!

the salon i used has shut down, however the guy that cut my hair has gone to a salon on sai yeung choi street in mong kok

if you in mong kok, its a great place...look for a salon that looks clean...and ask for the price FIRST!!!

You may find that sometimes local hairdressers get nervous doing 'non asian' hair, especially with chemical processes. I've had a few places tell me to my face that they don't do chemical straightening and when I point to the price list that says they do, they claim their stylist is on holiday!

Hi,

I just got mine done when I was in Hong Kong for a holiday. Most hairdressers do this treatment and prices do vary from HK$300 ++. I opted to go for a reputable chain - Salon Esprit who were doing a package - hair cut, treatments and straightening. My hair is long and thick and it took about 4.5hours! It did cost me HK$1688 which is about £112. It was so worth it.

Salon Esprit have hairdressers who speak good English and I had 2-3 pairs of hands on my hair at certain times and I totally felt that they were making sure that I have perfectly straight hair. The last thing you want is it not quite looking right. They do ask what your hair routine is, ie have you dyed your hair recently etc. If your hair is not in good condition, having this straightening treatment may not be a good idea.

The one I went to was in Mong Kok but they have salons in other areas including Central which is closer to Causeway Bay. web is www.salonesprit.com or call them when you get there 2525 2525

Any other questions, just ask!

Cheers

Cath

yes, i forgot about that

the hairdressers ask about your hair routine, and that if its your first ever timeit'll take longer to do

also that on the first night you sleep you may make dents in the straighten hair...all you do is get the hairdryer on it with LITTLE water...otherwise go back to the salon they said

yes I am chinese and original come from Hong Kong. My hairdresser in Wanchai, I don't think so you like it cos very old traditional the reason I still going there because I go to the salon over 15 years now. I will recommend you go somwhere like Central, Causeway Bay more high standard and most of the hairdresser can speak English, always check the price before you start, make sure they don't charge any extra charge.

I paid HK500 include hair cut as well, but my hairdresser can't speak English!!

I will say don't pay more than HK$1000 this is my opinion.

if you need more information about Hong Kong email me or place this forum
