Welcome to the Hong Kong Forum! The best way to find relevant information on this travel board is to use the “search box” at the top of the forum’s table of contents and type in the topic or key words that you are looking for. You can also find excellent travel information in the traveler created, "Inside Pages" for Hong Kong: tripadvisor.com/Travel-g294217-s1/Hong-Kong:… Frequently Asked Questions (Hong Kong Forum - Updated February 2008): The information below is only for your reference, for further information, please contact Hong Kong tourism board, do your own research, and get an updated comprehensive guidebook! 1) WHICH AREA SHOULD I STAY IN ? (KOWLOON OR HK ISLAND) The transportation system in Hong Kong is very efficient, reliable, and very affordable. You can take the MTR cross harbour, or take the star ferry, or cross harbour buses, mini buses, or taxis. All are convenient and affordable. The important thing is to choose a hotel that best suits your needs and budget, location is not the most worrisome factor while touring in Hong Kong. However, the popular areas to stay in nevertheless are: On the Kowloon side- Tsim Sha Tsui and Mongkok On HK island side- Central, Admiralty, Causeway Bay and Wan Chai There are more hotel choices to choose from on Kowloon side. 2) WHEN IS THE BEST TIME DURING THE YEAR TO VISIT HONG KONG ( WEATHER WISE SPEAKING)? In general, November to February would be the best time to visit. During these few months, the temperature is much more comfortable, less humid, and not much rain. Jan-February are our coldest months. May-June are our WETTEST months. July-August are the HOTTEST months. April and October are the hotel's peak season. For further details: Hong Kong Observatory http://www.hko.gov.hk/contente.htm 3) WHAT DO I WEAR DURING MY VISIT (Weather wise)? If you are coming from a warm country, then during the winter months of November to February, you will need sweaters, coats, scarves, mittens, hats, and some will wear warmers during February. There is no heating system in general around Hong Kong. During the hotter months like May to September, one would wear short sleeves, sleeveless, shorts, skirts, anything for summer weather that has the temperature as high as 32 degrees celsius during the months of July to August. However, Hong Kong is known for its unusual habit of keeping very powerful air conditioning in most indoor places, once you're indoor, unless you are used to the air conditioning, you will find it handy to have a light cardigan, or some kind of a long sleeve shirt to cover up. In nicer restaurants, if you are cold, you may ask for a "shawl" to cover up, mostly intended for the ladies. The restaurants will lend you one while you enjoy your meal. 4) WHAT ARE MUST SEES AND DO'S IN HONG KONG FOR A FIRST TIMER?
