Day in Chongqing before boarding Yangtze River Cruise

My husband and I are booked on a Yangtze River Cruise with Century Sky in June this year. Our flight from X'ian arrives at Chongqing at 9.30am. Would you suggest booking a guide/car for the day and have them take us directly to the dock to board our cruise later on in the day OR for us to catch a taxi to the Jiefangbie area near the docks and fill in our day looking around this area. The only thing is we will have luggage with us to carry around if we take the 2nd option. Not sure if we can drop our luggage off at the ship early ? Would be grateful for any suggestions, thanks.

This Chongqing forum is so quiet. Looks like Chongqing is not a place for travelers but a city for stopping over before going to other interesting cities. Have seen one or two posters said in the forum that there're so much to do in Chongqing and if you need anything, just ask. But no questions were answered after that :-(

Try if you can to go to the zoo and see the pandas. We just returned from China and we were very pleased with our panda experience at the Chongqing Zoo.

Thank you very much for your advice. We will definately be going to the zoo to see the pandas. Have a guide with a car to take us all around Chongqing and surrounding areas.

yes it's true that this is very little response from people about CQ. The reason for this is that there are othervdedicated Chinese and Chongqing websites which offer more and better information about Chongqing.

See www.travelchinaguide.com and www.cqexpat.com

Come and visit some time

Compared the 2 websites, travelchinaguide is good for travelers as the cqexpat is good for expats. Travelers may not know how to find the needed information for their travel plan among those real estate posts, dating posts, and job finding posts, etc.

As expected, getting information for free has its price. I followed the instruction in travelchinaguide to reach Beibei by bus, then a city bus to Bei Wen Guan to find out the place has been under the new name Brilliant Resort & Hot Spring (if I can recall it right). Almost 400 Yuan for hot spring pool use, not the 10 Yuan entrance fee as printed in travelchinaguide website.
