We are after a driver (not guide) that speaks english. We plan to go to the Great Wall at Mutianyu and maybe the summer palace on the way back. We do not want to visit any factories etc. Been there done that. This will be form central Beijing. What about a taxi? Does anyone know the cost versus day trip in private car?

Required first week in November (7th, 10th or 11th)

Thank you in anticipation.

Hi

We wanted a driver not a guide and we chose John. We went to Birds Nest, Great Wall at Mutianyu, Temple of Heaven and Silk Market (all of our choosing). John collected us at the Regent on time, and he has a comfortable car for the journey. Chatted on the way there, very friendly but then saw we were napping on the way back to Beijing so kep quiet till we got there!

We paid 1000 RMB for the day, well woth it to us for the comfort and convenience

We got the impression that taxi could be a bit hit and miss, plus the drivers don't speak much (if any) English

We hired John on our recent trip to Beijing. He took us to Jinshanling and dropped us off while we hiked the wall. He picked us up at Simatai. It was quite a trip and we would highly recommend him. He was prompt, and answered any questions we had. He took us to a little shop to buy some snacks to take with us before we arrived at the wall, and then also took us to a little restaurant to eat lunch afterwards. The whole trip took about 10 hours and he charged us 1000 rmb. He was worth every penny, and if we were ever to return to Beijing, we would almost certainly hire him again.
