Markets in Beijing |
|
Hi, Silk Street Market and Yaxiu market seem too commercialized for me, are there any flea markets in Beijing that's like Panjiayuan, but open everyday, and where haggling is not part of the show? Thanks for all kind replies. |

Haggling is always part of the show in China except maybe the big department stores. Even there you can ask for (and will generally get) a discount.

hi, thanks, guess i just hv to put up with it. btw, are there any sales in the department stores usually?
|
Department stores usually have end-of-season sales as well as sales during national public holidays.
|
Why would you not want haggling? Haggling is the best part of it.

If you're talking about clothes, you can try the wholesale markets near the Beijing zoo ( Xizhimen Subway station, then a 10rmb cab ride). Being wholesale markets, the prices they quote are very low and they don't tolerate much haggling unless you're buying several pieces. You have to be a patient shopper because there are hundreds of shops and you'll often see the same thing over and over again. Downside is you usually can't try on the clothes. Coats and shoes are ok.

If you have to haggle for every single item you buy (including food, clothes, shoes, whatever), the novelty wears off and it quickly becomes tiresome, and it takes up too much time.
