Cost of Driver/Taxi to Great Wall Mutianyu post Olympics

My husband and I will be visiting Beijing October 13-16 and we plan to visit the Great Wall Mutianyu. I have read a lot of forum posts on transportation and have a few questions. I am looking for responses from travelers who have visited Beijing during or since the Olympic Games. Does a return trip taxi to Mutianyu (waiting for approx 3-4 hours while touring wall) cost 350-400 RMB? Have prices gone up since the Olympics? Would this be the expected price for a taxi flagged on the street or one arranged by the hotel? Also, I have read a lot of good reviews about hiring a driver named John. However, when I emailed for a price quote I was quoted 1000 RMB which seemed a very high price. Has anyone used a private driver in Beijing to go to Mutianyu since the Olympics? Have the prices for private drivers gone up? Thanks for your help.

This John?

Agree that prices should be around 400 RMB for a taxi flagged in the street. In the hotel, get the doorman to tell the taxi driver waiting outside. If arranged through reception price will be double.

Also asked John for a price quotation for the Mutianyu Great Wall, and he gave me the same quote, RMB 1000. Seems too expensive.

We paid $800 rmb, for a driver to pick us up at the hotel (in NW Beijing), drive us to Mutianyu, wait for us (we were on the wall for over 4 hours) and drive us back. I think it was high, but what the heck. It's done...we had a great time, Mr. Ma was really nice (altho no english). this was during the Olympics and he was arranged through Cartan Tours at our hotel. We weren't part of their tours but they were very helpful to us throughout our stay at the hotel, regardless, including arranging this taxi for us (we spoke no mandarin...and the taxi drivers don't usually speak any english)

Last fall we, a party of seven, paid about 750 for a guide + a driver and van for a full day trip to the Olympic city (still under construction),the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, a stop at a restaurant and a drive back to our hotel after watching an acrobatics show. We were out and about for at least 12 hours.
