End of October should be quite comfortable during the day still. I.e: Lightish clothing during the day & you will need a cardie, jumper etc early morning & night.

At night maybe take in the Kung Fu show at the Red Theater or head to night food street at Donghuamen Night Market.

I have the same problem. I will be in Beijing on the last week of October and I don't have any idea on what the weather will be. I live in a city where temperatures do not go below 20 degrees Celsius. I read somewhere that it goes down to about 5 degrees in the early morning and at night at this time of the year?

You don't need a guide for the Wall! Even if you do Jinshanling/Simitai, there's no reason to have a guide.

I have just emailed Sophia to arrange a guide around beijing for day, and she is a available.
