Carrefours in Beijing |
|
Hi - I keep reading that shopping at Carrefours is the best place to buy silk duvets etc. Can anyone tell me if this is so and where it is located? Thank You |
|
Really? Hmmm.... It's kind of like a giant Wal Mart type of place. Sells lots of things at really cheap prices. But obviously, Wal Mart in China compared to the US is a little different. There is tons of food- interesting things, electronics, et cetera. Not sure if I did see a silk duvet.

Don't know about the silk duvet covers but the latest Carrefour's in Beijing is GuangDuMen. I don't think you can bring up the Carrefours web site in China to get addresses at the moment. Due to the drama in Paris re the Olympic torch & protest over Tibet the main Chinese search engine has banned the site. Not sure if this is right or not just what i have heard?

Actually I was able to go onto the website yesterday. But it was entirely Chinese, with no button for english.

For a list of Carrefour outlets in Beijing, go to http://www.carrefour.com.cn/mart.html and click on the 4th option on the drop-down list. The resulting addresses all have "Beijing" at the end so you know you're on the right list anyway.

Use free machine translators like Babelfish to help you plan: Just cut and paste a block of text, then choose translate from Simplified Chinese to English (It won't always translate an entire web page address) There's SO much more information available if you have a bit of patience to work with Chinese websites. E.g. ctrip.com has lots and lots of reviews for hotels on their Chinese pages, almost none on their English pages, especially for cities off the main tourist paths. Most prefecture and city websites although in Chinese have lots of good tourist info, etc. Also, remember to keep the address and phone numbers for destinations in Chinese. Taxi drivers speak and read Chinese, not English.
