beijing hotels

hello everyone. I am going to beijing early jan 2008. I haven't booked a hotel yet. Will you please help me find a hotel which is like a courtyard or so. I want to feel the Chinese way with good price and service. Preferably near transportation.

Did you try to do a search here for "Beijing courtyard" or similar? I think there has been quite a number of postings about this already.

Also, do you have a price range in mind?

How about the Sihe Courtyard hotel?

It's in the HuTong area and I believe it has a lot of history behind it.

I recently stayed at the Sihe hotel, and it was very nice. It is in the Hutong, so there are all kinds of small alleys around it is a very interesting area. Also, it is within walking distance to the Forbidden City. The rooms are large with nice beds, furniture and bathrooms; however, be prepared that there is no ice. They have wonderful breakfast and free internet as well. The staff was very helpful, and they were happy to write our destinations in Chinese for us so we could take taxis more easily.

We stayed at the Sihe in October. We had them pick us up at the airport which was very convenient.

Our room was in the back courtyard - very quiet for slepping - very clean - small, updated bathroom is adequate - - bottled water daily - very nice staff - good location.

Staying here was a nice introduction to China as opposed to staying in a western hotel

I recommend the Sihe.

We stayed in Sihe hotel during our first four nights and Mao'er Courtyard B&B during our last night in Beijing. Both were clean and comfortable. The location for Mao'er was better. It is situated in the heart of the Hutong district. The interior presentation for Mao'er was much more genuine. Sihe has a better 24hour front desk service. However, Mao’er is more reasonably priced.
