Hi Joseph.

We've been to China - but before we discovered Overseas Adventure Travel. That itinerary hits the major cities. Our favorites were Xian and Beijing. Be sure to do the Optional to see the Chinese Acrobats. They are fantastic.

The value is absolutely excellent, since it includes airfare. Prices for OAT tours are amazing this year. We leave on our next OAT Tour - Route of the Maya - next Sunday night. This will be our 4th tour with OAT, and we love the excellent Tour Directors that OAT always has. In fact, we've already received two emails from the TD for our tour next week. There are never more than 16 people on OAT tours - which makes their tours run very efficiently, and you really get to know the people that you are traveling with and the TD, who is always a native of the country that you are visiting. The people who we have traveled with have always been very interesting, and well traveled. Most have been OAT repeat travelers.

Be sure to fly out of San Francisco, rather than San Jose. It's cheaper, plus you avoid an extra flight. We're neighbors - we live in Los Altos - and we always fly out of San Francisco when we travel with OAT or their sister company GCT. It's worth the extra drive - and parking is cheaper near SFO.

If you have any questions about China or OAT, please feel free to email me at: shelsandy@hotmail.com.

My parents did the OAT Imperial China, Tibet & the Yangtze River tour a few years ago and loved it. Their favorite part was Tibet but they could have skipped the Yangtze cruise part and Hong Kong.

One thing I notice on the site is the tour you mention is a Grand Circle Tour and not OAT - not sure what the difference is - smaller group with OAT?

5. Re: Overseas Adventure Travel?

It has been several months since anyone wrote about OAT and China, but thanks to those who did, as I've been investigating OAT's Imperial China, Tibet & Yangtze River trip for June 2010. Any further advice on this trip and OAT?

My husband and I are not "group traveler" type of people, but we don't think it would be possible to do all that this tour does on our own (i.e. home visits). In investigating this on OAT's website, I learned that they and Grand Circle Travel are "sister" companies. From other sites and reviewing various itineraries for both companies, my opinion would be that GCT may cater to more the senior crowd, with a more leisurely, not so active pace.
