Hi everyone - We went to Lamu in 2009, so before the recent troubles, but I wanted to post a review to tell everyone how wonderful the place is. We used TA a lot so I wanted to share my experience.
We decided against going to Zanzibar preferring Lamu, as we hoped it would be a more "authentic" experience. It was everything we hoped, and Lamu town at night was magical. In the south part of the island, there are few tourists and it still retains a back-in-time spice island feel.
Up north, there are some high end villas, and more luxurious accommodation as well on some beautiful beaches - if you prefer.
The food is delicious - the lobster, salad, vegetables, spices, mmm......
We had an amazing time here, so don't be put off by the recent warnings. For those interested take a look at my blog of my trip there at http://bit.ly/AuPC7R
