Where to stay?

We have a very extended layover in Nairobi, arriving at 16.00 on a Tuesday, departing 24.00 on a Wednesday. We considered hiring a car, but it's much too expensive. The national park and other tourist sites near to it sound interesting and seem to be a great way to spend a day. However, we are open to other suggestions. My questions are;

1. Where should we stay that is within a reasonable taxi/transfer from the airport and convenient to the park and other attractions?

2. What is the best way to get around from the hotel, return to the hotel to pick up our luggage and transfer on to the airport?

We don't have a very strict budget, however, as this will be the last night of a long holiday, the cash is no longer free flowing either.

1. Re: Where to stay?

Have a look at the Aero Club @ Wilson Airport in Langata. Great value.

Entrance to NBI NP is quite literally few mins drive. Outside the entrance to park is Orphanage & Safari walk. If you want to see more wildlife, there's the Giraffe Park & Sheldrick Elllie Orphanage.

Carnivore Restaurant is in the same area.

Other hotel options in same area:

More expensive is Ole Serena, Eka Hotel

JKIA is 30--40 min drive during off-peak hours from Langata.

Pointless venturing any further than Langata.

Forgot to mention, there are camps inside the NBI NP like Emakoko & NBI Tented Camp but on the higher side ($$$).

I agree that the Aero Club will make a fine base. It's worth paying a little extra for rooms in the new wing. The restaurant also serves very good food at a reasonable price & if you're interested in aviation as I am then the bar continues a fascinating display of the history of aviation in Kenya. The beers pretty good also!!
