Kenya for 5 days

Hello, a friend and I are visiting South Africa for 18 days. Using miles, we have the option of spending 5 of those days in Kenya on the flight in.

Question: Is it work visiting Kenya if we only have 5 days? I imagine we can go on a short safari near Nairobi and see a little bit of the country. It has been surprisingly difficult to research the differences in quality of safari's, amount of time required, and travel time required from Nairobi.

Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

hi

5 days you can do just 2 over nights Masai Mara by air or even by road depending on your financial stability.

you can also do 4 days 3 overnights Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru.so this is a plenty of time.it also depend at what time you will land at Nairobi and maybe to be picked directly to safari..contact tour operating companies in trip advisor and they will give you price and itineraries.

It's doable. What month are you traveling?

Know also that prices are based on season for lodges/tented camps.

What time do you arrive NBO and when departing NBO?

This will really determine what can be accomplished in 5/days as in reality you might not have all that time 'on the ground.'

And then depending on budget, whether you drive (some distances are rather long and without the good roads you'll find in SA), of fly to a reserve or park.

Thanks for the information everyone.

We would arrive on Friday, December 27th around 11 PM. Departure is flexible.... perhaps late at night on January 1st or 2nd.

Money is not a huge concern... we could fly or drive, whatever would make the most sense for our time restrictions.

Thanks again everyone, please keep the suggestions coming! :-)

Feasible, but this needs careful planning. Forget about driving, it'll eat half your time. Fly to the Mara (ca. 1hr, around $350 roundtrip) and stay in one of the small, conservancy camps (Offbeat, Porini Lion, one of the Kicheche camps?). I would personally forget about Lake Nakuru at the moment. But you could do a night or two at Lake Naivasha, hike/mountain bike in Hell's Gate National Park and float on the lake among the hippos.

Hello

A 5 day Safari in Kenya is very possible and you can really have a good time and see plenty of animals. On the 1st Day you can visit Nairobi National Park and see plenty of wildlife then on the 2nd /3rd Day you can visit Lake Nakuru / Naivasha National Park and see the Big 5 animals and also plenty of flamingos, on the 4th and 5th Day you can do a photographic wildlife safari in Masai Mara National Park. On 5th Day have a late departure around 16.00hrs from Masai Mara on your way back to Nairobi.

Money might not be a concern, but availability will likely be. You're traveling over the Christmas/New Years, where space most everywhere whether visitors from out of counrty or locals are on holiday, been booked for months.

Arriving 11pm, you won't be going anywhere till next morning. 28th, and suggest you fly out to the Masai Mara, 28, 29, 30 & 31. Then fly to Naivasha (not sure this flight goes north from the Mara, might have to route thru NBO), spend balance 1st and part of 2nd before back to NBO and onward to SA (time of this flight dependent). Or do this in reverse, depending on availability of space.

Good luck.
