6pm-12pm in Narobi Airport- is it worth leaving?

Hi we are in the airport for 6 hours en route back to London from Zanzibar.

Please can anyone advise on what to do? I have read somewhere that it may be worth leaving for a few hours but does this involve

A. Needing a yellow fever jab

B. entry visa

Is there anywhere decent to eat in the airport

Thank you

Forget sightseeing as everything is closed by 6pm.

If you wish to take a nice dinner there are a few nearby hotels and/or eateries*, by taxi.

But you'll require a Transit Visa @ USD$20/person

And be back at airport minimum 2/hrs prior departure for checkin/security

*depending on when traveling and with recent airport fire at NBO, not many choices for a meal; though if by time you do travel there might be options rather than departing airport.

AND, Kenya is now requiring the Yellow Fever inoc and proof of same for entry if arrving from Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Uganda and other endemic areas in Africa.

Thank you.

It seems that if we want to leave we need to spend $ 70 each on a yellow fever jab plus $20 each so it's going to be an expensive few hours!

However if there is no where to eat in the airport, we probably have little choice...

even when you arrive in ZNZ you will need to show your YF certificate,

unless you have letter of exemption due to age or other reason.

We keep getting conflicting advice re YF

The doctors and travel clinics say we don't need it if coming from the uk in transit via narobi!

That is right, you don't need it if you are only in transit.

If you are in transit you stay airside at the airport so don't actually enter the country. But if you leave the airport you enter the country so you have to go through Immigration

There are some nice restaurants at Capital Centre along Mombasa Rd like Haveli (Indian) , Mr WOK (Chinese) & Pampa Grill (Panari for Steaks).

There's Java at the Departure lounge at JKIA.

It's Ok to leave the airport for few hours, understandaby not far. Maybe as far as the MBA Rd not beyond.

'There's Java at the Departure lounge at JKIA.'

that part of the departure area was damaged in the fire and has been closed ever since, so far only gates 4 to 8 at the opposite end of the departure area to Java House have been re-opened
