When I stay at the Fairview or Country Lodge to overnight in Nairobi I ask those hotels to arrange for a taxi to pick me up. Fares are usually ~$20-25.

Dean,

You can pick up a Taxi in the Arrivals Lounge, use the official 'Taxi Booth' and for your return, any Hotel will ensure you get a reliable Cab, if you give them some warning.

The main issue is how far from Jomo to stray, the traffic can be evil at times, so don't wander too far, oh and, ignore the 'were only X miles or minutes from the Airport' comments by the Hotels, they all seem to quote times when the roads are empty and speed limits don't exist!
