Child visas for Kenya

We're just about to sort Visas for a trip to Kenya and know we need visas for the children. The forms of the High Commission website don't really make it clear who should sign for the child and I'm not sure if they charge for child visas.

Anyone with recent experience? Would it just be easier to get visas on arrival (worried we'll be tired!).

"All children will now be required to obtain an entry visa to Kenya." From the website. Yes they have to pay.

How old is your child? Is he/she able to sign? If not, I would sign the form.

If you are on an overnight flight you probably will be tired and the kids full of beans! There's not much if anything to be gained by getting the visa in advance as you still need to queue, wait for your bags to come off and wait for other passengers. I would download and complete the form in advance and get your visa on arrival.

Thanks for that. Two are old enough to sign for themselves. Any idea as to whether we need to pay for the children?

Yes you do need to pay for children and it is the same rate as adults - $50 0r £30.

I also think that getting a visa on arrival, especially if you fill in the form in advance, is easier than getting it in advance. It costs the same and you will save on a trip to the embassy (probably twice) or on courier. It is very straightforward: give your form - pay - get your stamp. You can pay in pounds, euro, dollars or Swiss francs, if paying in dollars see that all notes are not older than year 2000, preferably even newer.

Personally we have always sent off for our multi visas by registered delivery and have had no problem at all.

Obviously we can't go to the embassy!!

We receive the visas on return within the correct number of days the embassy stipulate and saves waiting in the queues at Moi Airport which are very long every time we go out.

Even when our bags are not first off from the plane we always arrive at the hotel before the coach with clients going to our hotel.

We are usually met by a friend waiting for us outside the airport.

But if the OP is flying into Nairobi it doesn't make a jot of difference getting the visas in advance. Everyone has to queue together and having a visa doesn't make it any faster. What does make it faster is having the forms downloaded and filled in prior to arrival so that you don't have to start completing the paperwork on arrival.

I should have added that as we obtain a multiple visa this cannot be issued at Nairobi or Moi. We have to send the form to the Kenya High Commission in advance.
