Transfering between airlines at Nairobi airport

Hi, we are flying into Nairobi from London at about 9 p.m. on BA and flying out to Zanzibar the next morning at 7 a.m on Precision Air. We have pretty much determined there is no compelling reason to spend the money to leave the airport overnight.

If we have to retrieve and re-check our luggage (as I doubt BA will check it through another airline for us) does this mean that we will have to get a transit visa to wander around the airport? Or is there another way to get your luggage transferred without having to go through customs and immigration? And do the ticketing counters close for the night after the last plane has left/arrived?

I got stuck once in Lima watching those guys wrap luggage in fluorescent plastic for 5 hours because the ticketing/baggage check counter for the regional airline didn't open until 2 hours before the first flight and even though we had already printed our boarding passes (and had no luggage to check), they wouldn't let us back through security until we had gotten some stamp from the ticket counter. Trying to avoid a replay of that, but would rather be ready for it if it is going to happen.

Hi,

With such a long flight from London, you may decide to check out on a place near the airport which is not so highly priced instead of hanging at the airport.

Panari, Eka and Ole Sereni are a little priced BUT some few meters from Eka hotel on Mombasa road, you can check Nairobi airport stopover house. Its clean, safe and budget. They also offer airport transfers.

We will be flying into Nairobi from Livingstone on a Kenya Airways flight with onward flight to Amsterdam and only 1 hour and 10 minutes between flights. Will the Kenya Airways flight arrive as an international flight and we can then make our way to the departure lounge for the KLM flight to Amsterdam? Our luggage will be checked straight through to Amsterdam. How long should the transfer take us?

Inbound from LIV to NBO should land at the Int'l terminal and the outbound KLM flight to AMS should be in the same terminal. Just check the departure board and head to the appropriate gate which in all likelihood will have started boarding procedures. You will not have time to sit/relax at a Lounge... there isn't one.
