Intercontinental Hotel or Hilton?

In looking at the hotel reports it appears that the better of the two would be the Hilton? The Intercontinental seems to be aging and in need of a refresh versus the Hilton.

Can I get an honest opinion from a recent traveler ? !!\\

Thank you

I am currently staying at the IC and am very impressed with the staff, local and level of comfort. I can not say enough great things about how friendly everyone here is and how they strive to be professional. The breakfast buffet is good!

I have to say, after a few days stay at the IC in March, and not a stay but a surprisingly unescorted and detailed visit to the upper floors of the Hilton (once I was through the lobby security I was at liberty to look around the whole hotel, including upper floor rooms that were open for cleaning - that's black-white deference for you in Kenya 2012!) I would totally plump for the IC. Not great, not modern, not 2012, but ticking along quite nicely. And there's a 24-hour ground-floor bar that we found handy.

Agree for the IC as well, First visit was in'05 where our arrival room was good, though dayroom needed refurbishing. Learned from the manager that the entire hotel was being refurbished and should be on my next visit as he knew I would be.

Sure enough have since returned twice and indeed the rooms had been refurbished, both those for overnight or dayrooms Traditional sized hotel rooms... nice decor, clean and more than enough outlets/jacks for any electronics a guest would need.

The IC is a full-service hotel, with the business center, great breakfast room, a few restaurants, shops, pool and each floor had security when getting off the elevator escorting guest to their rooms... especially for solo travelers (women). A very pleasant and helpful staff. And as Richard mentions... the main floor bar was busy busy busy! :-)

The Hilton on the otherhand, doesn't compare. However, many who have Hilton points will choose this for the price (or free) for that reason only.

Those mentioned above are nice options and while I can't comment on Crowne, the others are newer if priced likely a bit higher than either IC or Hilton. EKA is new (might have 'opening' specials) and located right on the road from the airport... nowhere near anything though somewhat better priced than the other two here - Ole Sereni or Panari; Sankara, that some consider pricey; Tribe, also priced much as Sankara, but many consider the location in Gigiri (embassy row) is a bit out of the way even if right at the Village Market.

I am in the Intercontinental right now. If you have a choice, get the rooms on the 6th floor (Club rooms), or on the new wing (rooms 50+) where the rooms are newer with nicer furnishing. Breakfast spread is good and nice. The hotel is clean. There is security when you come into the hotel.

My vote go on the Inter Con. Though both of them are located in the CBD, Intercon is more safe, security tight compared to Hiton where you always find at least more than 100 people idling at its front. Also a very noisy location. It is Hilton that is aging, not Inter Con .
