We end our safari in a few weeks with a flight from JRO to Wilson Airport, Nairobi. We arrive around 1500 on a Tuesday. Are safe and reliable taxis waiting at Wilson for transport to JKIA or should we reserve a taxi beforehand? Is the cost around $20? Is there anything to see or do around Wilson, shops and place for lunch available? We are in no rush as our BA flight leaves JKIA around 2340.
In the vicinity of Wilson Airport, is Carnivore restaurant, Tusky's Shopping Mall.
On the way to the airport on Mombasa Rd is Haveli Restaurant/Java Coffee Hse (inside Capital Centre), . Fogo Gaucho in Panari, Ole Sereni Hotel & Eka hotel.
Ideally you should have arranged for a later flight from JRO direct into JKIA. On conclusion of safari in Tanzania you could have taken a dayroom or arranged sightseeing/shopping in/around Arusha, before transfer to JRO for the flight which departs 7:40pm.
Otherwise, as arriving Wilson mid-afternoon, guess it's got to be a taxi, and while fare is $20-25 to JKIA (with horrific traffic at that time of day), if you decide to keep a vehicle/driver for most of the afternoon into evening, you should pre-arrange.
Why not inquire of your Tanzania outfitter (most all work with a Kenyan partner) to arrange for a meet/greet with driver vehicle for you at Wilson at set price so no negotiating last minute.

What is the distance from Wilson Airport to EKA Hotel and then to JKIA
There's a shortcut from Wilson to Eka which is quite safe to take during daylight hours. The shortcut, ends up at Ole Serena, neighbour hotel to Eka.
Take the Mombasa Highway. main rd off Eka, to JKIA. Another 30 min drive.
Wilson to Eka Hotel is 5.3 km.
Eka Hotel to JKIA is 12 km.
Each journey would take between 20 - 45 minutes.
