We (my wife and I from Sydney, Australia) used Hope Mission Tours for a 12 day tour all around Kenya in May 2012. We cannot recommend Joseph and Simon highly enough!! From the start to finish they were highly professional and were extremely friendly when we arrived on the ground. Joseph was our excellent driver and guide, while Simon looked after the logistics from Nairobi. We felt safe and comfortable throughout our journey.

Hope Mission Tours, a 100% Kenyan owned and operated small business were the best we had on our 2 month trip through Africa. One of the things that stood out most was the care they exhibited in obeying the rules and making sure we had a great experience. For instance, there were many drivers who broke park rules constantly when they spotted a Cheetah or a pride of Lions. Not Joseph. He continued to obey and honor all the park rules and respect the animals during the safari. We have done a lot of wildlife safaris in many countries and felt Joseph genuinely cared for the well-being of the animals.

They were also the only company who gave a detailed breakdown of their quote, so we knew "exactly" how much was going to the lodges, how much for park entrance and other charges. No other operator was as transparent. Hells Gate National Park was inaccessible and Joseph was prepared to substitute other activities in its place. They also gave us a nice surprise by upgrading us free of charge to Sweetwaters Tented Camp.

Overall, Joseph was an amazing host and a terrific human being. Use these guys if you love and "respect" the Wildlife!!!

While staying in Kenya for three months doing voluntary work, we also wanted to explore Kenya´s wildlife and were looking for a safari. We contacted several companies, which we didn´t know before, via email and Hope Mission Tours Nairobi, seemed to be the cheapest. Furthermore Hope Mission Tours and Joseph, the head of the company, proved to reply all our messages quickly and carefully. He considered all our wishes and proposals and made us the offer:

10 day Safari

Day 1: Masai Mara

Day 2: Masai Mara

Day 3: Masai Mara

Day 4: Masai Mara......L.Nakuru

Day 5: L.Nakuru- L.Naivasha

Day 6: L.Naivasha- Amboseli

Day 7: Amboseli

Day 8: Amboseli- Tsavo

Day 9: Tsavo

Day 10 : Mombasa

Total Cost per person = USD 2180, price for private safari, sharing one vehicle by two person.

As we had a meeting at our embassy in Nairobi in Nairobi, we decided to also meet Joseph personally. He was accompanied by a colleague and they answered our remaining questions carefully.

Our driver Simon arrived at our hotel in time and picked us up in order to drive to the “Enchoro Wildlife camp”. From the beginning Simon was very friendly. What we really enjoyed, was his information. Many guides speak without a break and explain you all the things you don´t want to know and finally you miss the important things because you don’t pay them attention anymore. Simon only told us the interesting staff; he noticed when we preferred to relax, but gave us all the information we wanted to know and was able to answer all our questions in detail. We could not have imagined a better guide!

The Enchoro Camp is simple, but rooms are clean and comfortable. The food was excellent and the atmosphere amazing authentic, because the people running it are real Masai, who join the guests in the evening, enjoying the bonfire.

Our next hotel in Nakuru “Cool Rivers”, where we stayed only one night was a disaster. We told Joseph about it and he apologized professionally and promised that he would not book the hotel again for his guests.

In Naivasha we passed one night in “Panorama Hotel”. This accommodation was very luxury. The food was delicious and the rooms offered a lot of space. Moreover a pool was there. In Hells gate national park in Naivasha, we decided to pay 1000KES (11$) in order to explore the park by bicycle without Simon. I can recommend this to everybody, even people who don’t do a lot of sport.

In Amboseli and Tsavo we stayed at Sentrin Lodges. In both National parks these Lodges were very luxury and comfortable. The Lodge in Amboseli offers a pool, and in Tsavo, the Lodge is in the middle of the park, which allows you to watch elephants while lying in your bed. Incredible!

About the accommodations in total, one can say that we were very satisfied. Joseph had picked them very carefully. They were much better than we had expected because we focused on the price of the safari and Joseph was the cheapest. Anyway he booked delightful accommodations (except Nakuru).

Simon was always a great guide and helped us in many situations, for example he booked a bus for us in Mombasa. He showed us all the animals tourists want to see, when doing safari in Kenya, including the big five and cheetah. Our highlights were eight lion caps, which we were watching alone, without any vehicles next to us. Concerning the number of animals, Masai Mara is the best! At all seasons, independent from the big migration. Tsavo was a little bit disappointing. If you are planning to do a safari, make sure you don’t miss Masai Mara. To spot rhino, we experienced Nakuru to be the best place.

Payment: We had some problems with the payment because we had paid one part of it in advance, and our bank had made a mistake about the second part. I advocate you to pay the whole sum in advance because banks in Europe sometimes are very slow in transferring money to another continent.

We can give Hope Mission Tours the highest recommendation. We wish this great company all the best for the future. They are reliable and do a great job!

10 day Safari

Day 1: Masai Mara

Day 2: Masai Mara

Day 3: Masai Mara

Day 4: Masai Mara......L.Nakuru

Day 5: L.Nakuru- L.Naivasha

Day 6: L.Naivasha- Amboseli

Day 7: Amboseli

Day 8: Amboseli- Tsavo

Day 9: Tsavo

Day 10 : Mombasa

I used Hope Mission Tours to explore Kenya and I highly recommend them. Their prices are cheap and the service is exceptional. Joseph is an excellent guide and a safe and skillful driver. Their vehicle is well maintained and is safe and suitable for wildlife safari (four-wheel) even in dire road conditions inside parks especially when it rains. [The park tracks can get a lot muddy during the rains and I noticed that some operators use vehicles like non-four wheel vans which are not appropriate for such conditions and they often got stuck.]

Joseph spent a lot of time driving us around inside the parks, often more than what was promised on the itinerary, as we were keen on wildlife photography. The size of their vehicle and the settings are ideal for wildlife observation and photography purposes. [It is rather difficult to explore certain areas in parks in larger vehicles the size of buses.] At no point did Joseph break any park rules. We did however, observe some other drivers in the park who ventured off-road to get close to animals and also drove their vehicles in an intimidating manner to animals (especially lions) often blocking their path. Joseph really respects and cares for the wildlife.

Simon and Joseph took care of the logistics and ensured a very smooth trip. We felt very safe with them and immensely enjoyed our tour. Hope Mission Tours was part of my wonderful and memorable experience in beautiful Kenya.
