Brief stopover in Nairobi

We fly into Nairobi from LHR at 21.30, flying out again at 8am the next morning. Can anyone recommend a comfortable hotel/guest house/b&b very close to the airport - particularly bearing in mind the current security situation, we do not want to travel very far at all!

The closest decent hotel I'm aware of is the Redcourt Hotel, about 12km from the airport. It's highly secure and well run (by the Red Cross), but a little flash and not budget. There's also a place a little bit closer, in the low-rent suburb of Embakasi, north of the airport, called the Regional Hotel. I think it's around $60 but I don't know it personally.

I really wouldn't stress too much about the security situation. There's absolutely nothing you can do about it and the American travel advisory service hasn't mentioned any increased security issue.

Stef, the Fahari is way out in Eastlands, and almost as far (16km) from JKIA as going into the CBD.

"Very little traffic" is a bit ambiguous, but for these timings, you should be fine, though if you don't stay at at a hotel fairly close to the airport, you'll need to make a very early start. By 6.15– 6.30am there's a lot of heavy, slow traffic. But you'll probably want to be back at the airport by 6.30, so if you leave your help pretty well anywhere in Nairobi by 5.30am, you should easily be there by then.

If you stay at one of these three (Ole Sereni or Eka by preference), you're less than 30 minutes from the airport even in rush hour.
