beach safari trip - is it possible on a budget?

The beaches seem to be plagued with hassle, and the safaris appear to be expensive.

If you wanted a safari (say 3 days?), then 7/8 on a beach type holiday, where would you choose and why?

thanks

Hi,

"The beaches seem to be plagued with hassle, and the safaris appear to be expensive."

Well that is true but it can be mis-interpreted somewhat.

You will get locals on the beach trying to sell you trips or carvings or to get your hair done, get a massage etc. It can be "a hassle" but it is very very rarely uncomfortable or heavy. They may be a little persistant but a firm "no" and they wander off after a minute or two. Also once they have seen you a couple of times and youve told them "no" they usually get the message and leave you be.

Trips can be expensive but then just try and barter well and get a good price.

Where would i go? Well if you want a more peaceful beach time go to the south coast if you want a bit busier and more holiday atmosphere try the north coast. As for safari well you ahve tsavo east/west or masai mara which would be your choice.

Hope that helps you a little.

I would go to the south - less hassling except the long transfer on the ferry. I would do one night Nakuru two nights Masai Mara then fly to the south coast. They have direct flights Mara / Ukunda - thus escaping the ferry ride. This of course depends on your budget but maybe you can get a seat in a bus safari as the Nakuru / Mara safari is quite popular ( depending on season) or even camping. Good luck!

If you will be on the beach and still want a safari on budget, then Tsavo East/west and Amboseli would be perfect for you. If you want to stay out of hassle on the beach..stay at South Coast(tiwi, diani)and you will have a geat time!
