We have just spent 4 nights at the Heron Hotel on Milimani Road. What a poor hotel !!
On check in they had no record of our reservation despite us sending an e mail confirmation. We were informed that no security facilities were available despite the web site stating that they were. Instead we were advised to lock our valuables in the case in the bedroom and were assured that no one would interfere with anything. On return to the hotel on the 1st day we got to our room to find the door ajar. Fortunately nothing had been stolen but how good is such a hotel that allows the room persons not to check that they have properly closed the doors on exiting bedrooms.
Food was terrible with breakfast service averaging about 1 hour and always something ordered did not arrive often with the excuse that the juice etc was locked away in a store room. Dinner was worse and on the 1st night we spotted a party of guests who had to wait about 2 hours before even receving their starters.
That night I ordered chicken which arrived cold !
On the last evening some friends visited so we all ordered fillet steaks. After 10 minutes the waiter announced that there were no fillet steaks but we could have sirloin or t bone ones instead. We all declined and ordered alternatives. 10 minutes later the waiter announced that miracoulously fillet steaks were available so we reordered them. However it was a huge conn trick as when the fillet steaks arrived they werein fact sirloin ones. The chef obviously thought that we would be no wiser despite a totally different shape, size, texture etc.
All in all a very por hotel for the price of ks 8450 per night. There appeared to be a "manager" there who I suspect might have been German but she was totally indifferent to what was happening and appeared only interested in counting the takings.
A hotel not to be recommended. By contrast we had just spent 3 weeks in a small hotel in Mombasa where everything was spot on and allso we spend 5 nights at the Midland Hotel in Nakuru where again there were no complaints at all.
