Flight connection NBO airport

I am arriving 6:30 AM July 31 at NBO on a Kenya Air flight from London Heathrow. I had requested some months ago my travel book me on the Precision Air flight to Kilimanjaro at 10:00 AM. I received my final travel documents and e-tickets yesterday and I am actually booked on the 8:00 AM flight Precision Air PW 724. My agent advised me that Precision Air cancelled the 10:00 AM flight and that the only 2 Precision Air flights that day from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro are: 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. I am assuming this is true and this is not just covering up a screw up.

This is making me extremely nervous about making the connection in only 90 minutes assuming everything is on time. I have emailed Precision Air, but am not hopeful for a reply as an email I sent to them several months ago bounced back undeliverable. Interestingly when I go on the current schedule on the Precision Air website the only two flights they show are 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM - no listing for the 8:00 AM I am e-ticketed on (date of issue 17 July)!

I read on a prior post the suggestion to check the luggage at LHR through to JRO. Is this possible considering this is two different airlines? If this is true can I also check in for my Precision Air flight with Kenya Airlines? I think Precision Air flight code shares with Kenya Air but I don't know if this is true for the 8:00 AM flight.

I also read on the prior post to stay in the gate area and avoid the whole transit visa business. Is this possible to do when arriving on Kenya Air and going out on Precision Air? I have an e-ticket on Precision Air. Won't I have to go out to a ticketing counter?

I appreciate all input as this is making me really nervous.

There are 3 NBO-JRO Precision Air flights on July 31 at 8:00am, 6:10pm and 9:30pm.

Are you originating from LHR or somewhere in the US? In any case, I'd ask that your luggage be checked through to JRO. You'll need to show the check-in agent your Precision Air e-ticket. If they can't issue your NBO-JRO boarding pass, there are transit desks airside at NBO where you can pick up your boarding pass without having to go through passport control, customs and back out to the main check-in counters. In case for whatever reason, you can't through check your luggage, you can also ask at the transit desk to see if they can escort you down to baggage claim to retag your bag (this will be faster than you claiming and rechecking at the main counter).

Right now PW724 is completely full and possibly overbooked on July 31.

Thanks Patty for the advice. We are starting in Los Angeles on Continental, changing planes in Houston on our way to London Heathrow. We have 4 hours on the ground in London. I will certainly try to get our luggage checked through to JRO. We do have a copy of the e-ticket itinerary from Precision Air. If Continental can't check our bags through from LAX to JRO, I am thinking to have them checked to Heathrow and then rechecking them there with Kenya Air hoping they will check them through to JRO. Any thoughts on whether it would be better anyway to collect our luggage in Heathrow and recheck it ourselves? Less chance of misrouting or is this too much hassle?

I am glad to know we should be able to avoid the customs/ immigration hassle in Nairobi. We will do our best to get our Precision Air boarding passes in Heathrow to avoid getting bumped. We have two separate bookings, one from LAX to Heathrow using frequent flier miles, the second on Precision Air.

Kenya Air (KQ) runs the Precision (PW) as a code share flight.

As Patty mentions, when checkin in the States, show the agent all your tickets including the PW e-ticket, and ask they tag your bags thru to JRO. If need be, explain that the 10am flight was cancelled and as you're on the earlier 8am and to avoid possible delays once at Nairobi, how much you appreciate their assistance. Always smile, speak softly and have your fingers crossed behind your back.

Once at NBO, head right to the KQ Transit Desk and let them handle seeing that you are checked i timely for 8am flight, receive your boarding pass and inquire re your bags to be sure they're transferred to the JRO flight. If need be, get assistance to verify at Baggage Claim. And do let the agent/Transfer Desk know where you will be staying in Arusha. I'm assuming you're spending first day/night in Arusha? If not, then be sure they have name of your tour outfitter in Arusha.

If for some reason, after you've done all the right things and your bag doesn't make it, (do have a change of clothing in your carryon bag) be sure to advise your tour outfitter in Arusha of the delay and have them follow-up with PW, so as to get your bag to you whether in Arusha or your first stop on safari.

TIA - things happens, so go with the flow!

I'd ask CO at LAX to check your bags all the way through to JRO. Is your frequent flyer ticket to Heathrow or Nairobi?

Some tips regarding potential TRANSFER CHECK-IN in Nairobi:

Since Precision and KQ seem to be code shared, it would be gr8 if they can check you all thru from LHR(/LAX) to Kilimanjaro. Reason for that is being that the KQ transfer check-in in Nairobi is a total mess, so if you can: avoid it!

At least speaking from my experience last week (July 16) on my homeward from Kinshasa. 5 counters served plus 50 people lined up (one line regardless of ticket/FF class). Took me a good hour to get thru. May have been a temporary peak due to many incoming flights, but just wanted to high-light..

Best luck! And bring stuff for the first days as carry-on since your luggage has 4 legs to cross...

Thanks to you all! Patty, our frequent flier tickets are from LAX to NBO. The NBO to JRO Precision Air ticket was separately purchased.

Does anybody think I could get Kenya Air in London Heathrow to give me the boarding pass for the code shared Precision Air flight NBO to JRO? It would reduce our chance of getting bumped from the flight if it is overbooked.

Believe me guys, I always carry a change of clothes in my carry-on - this one my carry on will be stuffed to the max. If we make this 4 leg trip with no snafus I will think I won the lottery!

Joan - once in London, no harm in asking KQ for the PW boarding pass and hope for the best.

In that case, if Continental can't check your bags through to JRO, you can ask them to short check it to LHR if you want to pick up and recheck. You may have to explain to them why you want to do this.

If you do pick up your bags and recheck them at LHR, you'll need to clear immigration and customs and go to the Kenya Airways counter. You'll need to meet their bag check cut-off time at LHR. Provided your inbound arrives on schedule, you should have plenty of time. However, if there are delays, it could get dicey.

Hope someone else can help you with the boarding pass question. Good luck!
