Connecting flights at NBO airport

We would like to fly from London to Kilimanjaro airport via Nairobi. Ideally we want to fly from LHR to NBO with Virgin Atlantic and then connect with Precision Air to JRO airport.

The time in between those 2 flight is 2 hrs 40 minutes.

Would this be enough? Do we need to leave the transit area?

We have noticed that all tour operators offer the LHR NBO flight with Kenyan Airways. Why is this?

2:40 is plenty of time. Nairobi airport is not that big. In fact, you will be pretty bored after about 45 minutes.

You do not need to leave the gate areas at all, so all you can do is wander around through the shops and wait. In fact, you do not want to leave the gate areas or you will have to pay for a Kenyan transit visa (unless you can talk your way out of one). Just make sure that you check your bags all the way through to JRO when you check in at LHR, or that you go to the Express counter and have them fetch your bags for you if needed.

I suspect that most tour operators use Kenyan Airways because A) they are cheaper and B) they probably get a booking fee.

The 2 hrs and 40 mins wait will be enough, however you may also note that there is another flight to Kilimanjaro international airport by the same Airline at 10h30 just in case you miss the 08h30 one

Kenya airways is slightly cheaper than BA and VS which ply same route, this could explain why the Tour operators prefer using KQ
