Tourist safety in Kenya

Can anyone tell us if it's safe to be on safari in Kenya? We hear conflicting reports from news media and Kenya Tourist Association. What's it really like out there??

Best thing to do is have a read through the other threads in here, you'll find your answer!

(The Search function is your friend) ;)

Seriously though, from the sounds of it, the problems are really located around Nairobi and Mombassa. No tourists have been caught up in the troubles yet and they do seem to be starting to calm down now.

But do have a read through the other threads, you'll find more indepth info. In particular you may find this of interest.

Definitely read the news (google => news => Kenya) and make your own decision.

We just got back from two weeks in Kenya (2 nights Nairobi,3 nights Amoboseli, and 6 nights Masai Mara). We had no problems, saw no evidence of problems.

We had the trip of a lifetime.

The tourist industry is really suffering due to people cancelling their trips. These people support many other people and need their jobs to survive. It is such a shame that people are staying away. Certainly understandable based on the media reports. Be sure to read all that you can and make an informed decision. We did that before we left and felt comfortable on our way there and throughout our holiday.

It is perfectly safe as long as you are not visiting Western Kenya and the slums in Nairobi and Mombasa. What's it really like? Fantastic as usual. Only now there are no tourists so the parks are rather empty. So please come. Remember that good news is not news so the news media wont be reporting that it is safe for tourists!

I am on holiday at the moment at The Pinewood Village Beach Resort and am having a wonderful time. We have seen no trouble here and my daughter got married yesterday and it was absolutly wonderful. We are all treat like kings and queens. The Kenyan people are so lovely and all they want is to earn a living. Please do not desert these wonderful holiday resorts as tourism is not affected as far as I can see.
