Holiday Inn Nairobi ?

Hi, we have booked our safari for next August, and now trying to decide on which hotel to book in Nairobi - we stayed in the Norfolk this year, and I wouldnt go back there again, how far is the Holiday inn from Nairobi airport ? and is it convenient for Wilson airport too ? Many thanks.

The Holiday Inn is in Westlands, a suburb to the north of downtown Nairobi. I wouldn't say that it's convenient to either NBO or Wilson. The Panari is very close to NBO, but if you're arriving at one airport and departing from the other the following, any downtown hotel is fine. Or you can stay in the suburb of Karen which is not far from Wilson.

Thanks PattyC, yes, we're flying into NBO and then out of Wilson, but we do have 2 nights in Nairobi when we first arrive, so was trying to pick somewhere that is convenient to both airports and also to be able to do Giraffe Park and Elephant orphanage - will have a look at what you suggested and also places in Karen district, many thanks.

Then Karen would be very convenient as the GIraffe Centre and Sheldricks are in the vicinity.

Thanks PattyC, we'll focus on looking in Karen area !

Re our safari, this year we organised the trip through Trailfinders, and their local agent in Kenya is Pollmans, who were fab fab fab ! as there were 10 of us it was tailored to us, we went to Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara and then down to Mombasa. Next year just the 4 of us are returning, and doing the camps as we didnt get a chance this year and feel we kinda missed out somewhat, thats not to say we didnt enjoy the lodges, because we did. We have booked with the Heritage group for next year and staying in the Intrepids as they have adventurer Club which will suit our two children.

There is a Bed & Breakfast Hotel in Karen, which is very nice and not so big, called Macushla House. It lies just next to Langata Giraffe Centre.

We will be staying there in March 08... oh I can't wait to see it...;-)

There is also a rating on tripadvisor:

Serena Hotel for us. Have used it for a few years now......excellent decor and rooms, friendly attentive staff and great food. We don't consider anywhere else.

Thanks Mswisi, it looks great, and certainly the location is just right. I'll send them an email and see what the story is. Just noticed your location is in Switzerland, on our trip next year to Kenya we are flying with Swiss Air to NBO as it was the cheapest route for us from Dublin, hope you too have a great holiday.

Hi, we're stopping over at the Fairview in Nairobi which looks really tranquil and green - out on Nairobi Hill(http://www.fairviewkenya.com/)

Not sure if this is the area you want to be in - refers to itself the country hotel in the town. We're stopping one day and night before flying to Amboseli (leaving our main suitcases there) and then going back there again once we get back from safari for a day, have arranged to go to the Carnivore restaurant before heading to Mombasa to the Voyager next day.

Best wishes

Macushla is lovely, With only 6/rooms, lovely grounds and pool. Its probably the most reasonably priced of the small B&Bs in Karen. Drive to Wilson is about 20/min (depending on traffic).
