Gifts for local children in Kenya Villages?

We are going on an A & K Safari to Kenya and I have heard that it is a nice thing to take little children's gifts for the kids that you meet on the tours/safaris. Does anyone have any comments on that?

There's lots of info on many posts and even Inside pages.

Yes, it is really nice to take gifts. I tend to advise against sweets because of the lack of easy dental care for many children. Fruit, bread ... appreciated.

Things which can be shared are always good. (e.g. a football!). Pens and pencils are welcome but very easy and cheap (for those with money!!) to buy here.

Anything from "abroad" is special! Look out for the quiet and non-pushy children, who often tend to get missed out.
